ABOUT DIMPI

Born in Mumbai, and studied at Cathedral and John Connon School, I started my travels early in life and finished schooling in London. I then worked in London for 10 years, in Melbourne for 6 years, and in Manila for 2 years, while also bringing up my two children and supporting my family (my husband was a career banker ). In Australia I trained and gained a diploma with the Australian Institute of Professional Counselling. In Manila I was Executive Director of In-Touch an NGO aimed at providing face to face counselling, workshops, seminars and a free confidential Crisis Line. On my return to India in 2004 I studied Nutrition from the Gold Coast Academy, Queensland and earned educational qualifications in this area. Thereafter I worked with The Health Awareness Centre in Mumbai for 7 years in the area of nutrition holistic healthcare.

In all I have about 20 years of experience in counselling and in natural healthcare mostly in India. During this period I have counselled and helped more than 2000 people. More recently since 2013 I have worked for Aktivhealth ( as a metabolic balance coach) and Prasuk Organics ( as a Nutrition Consultant) in Delhi and have also been doing healthcare counselling on my own.

Due to my strong communication skills and global experience I am able to empathise with people of all ages, and backgrounds. This has enabled me to enjoy working in natural healthcare consulting, corporate healthcare consulting and conducting workshops for nutrition re-education. I also love cooking and enjoy relating to people through the positive and practical aspect of the kitchen. The fact that healthy food can be tasty as well is a real boon.

My philosophy in life is “Live To Give”. I am a strong believer in the Hippocrates oath 'Let Food Be Thy Medicine and Medicine be Thy Food'. I am constantly upskilling myself doing new courses in Nutrition and Food and I spend my spare time researching and learning. I am compassionate and keen to share my experiences with others. I have a zest for life and love to travel. Interacting with people energizes me and I hope vice versa. I believe I am a ‘Globally Aware Indian’.

I have settled down in Delhi NCR from where I am carrying out natural healthcare consultancy activities.

How is Your Gut Feeling?

The gastrointestinal system, also referred to as the gastrointestinal tract, the digestive system, the digestive tract or gut, is a group of organs that includes the mouth, the oesophagus, the stomach, the gallbladder, the small intestine, the colon and the rectum. “All diseases begin in the gut,” said Hippocrates, the Greek Physician, 2,500 years ago. Though not strictly true, many metabolic conditions are caused or influenced by gut inflammation. At some stage or the other we always say, ‘I can feel it in my gut’ or ‘I have a gut feeling’. That is because our gut is our second brain and 70 to 80 per cent of our immune system lies in our gut. How Is Your Gut Feeling? explains all this plus contains dietary and non-dietary remedies to heal the gut. As a bonus, the book offers a few gut-friendly recipes.

How are Your Lungs Breathing?

The respiratory system consists of the nasal cavity, the larynx, the mouth, the bronchus, the trachea, the diaphragm and the lungs. In fact, the main ‘gates’ into the body are the lungs and the digestive system (discussed in an earlier book in this series, How Is You Gut Feeling?). The lungs let in air, while the nasal passages help to prevent unwanted agents from entering the lungs. Healthy, strong mucous membranes in the respiratory and digestive tract, are the first lines of defence against invaders. The respiratory system, together with the cardiovascular system, is responsible for delivering oxygen from the lungs to every cell in the body, and then for removing carbon dioxide and returning it to the lungs to be exhaled. How Are Your Lungs Breathing? offers nutritional advice for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep apnea and asthma. Custom-made recipes have also been included.

How is Your Heart Throbbing?

Heart disease is among the leading causes of death globally. It is a comorbidity in Covid-19 times, so we need to be aware of our nutrition and understanding of what heart disease actually is. Cardio vascular diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels pertain to any of several disorders, including high levels of cholesterol in the blood, high blood pressure, heart attack, angina, coronary heart disease and heart failure. A heart attack happens when the coronary artery that supplies the heart muscle with blood becomes narrow and blocked. How Is Your Heart Throbbing? includes some home remedies for high blood pressure, cholesterol and general conditioning of the heart. For instance, a glass of carrot, beetroot or papaya juice daily can help in bringing down your blood pressure. Specific heart-healthy recipes are also included in the book.

How sweet is Your Blood Sugar?

Problems with the immune system can lead to the development of long-term conditions such as Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Our main source of energy comes from carbohydrates. This is turned into glucose in the body. The glucose in the bloodstream then has to enter the body cells. The hormone, insulin, produced by the pancreas, is required for this purpose. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system reacts against its own cells, in this case the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Most of the treatment for diabetes is aimed at restoring and maintaining normal blood glucose levels. Nutrition therapy plays a vital role in the treatment of diabetes. It keeps blood sugar levels in the normal range and helps to prevent diabetes-related complications. Diet is the cornerstone of treating the illness. How Sweet Is Your Blood Sugar? features these remedies plus some recipes to manage diabetes.

How much do you love your liver?

The liver is a key frontline immune tissue. Ideally positioned to detect pathogens entering the body via the gut, it detects captive and clear bacteria, viruses and macromolecules. The liver is the largest organ (about the size of a football) in our body and the most hardworking one. It is essential for digesting food and for removing toxins. A diminished bile flow results from alcohol-induced fatty deposits, toxins from the liver, drugs and diseases such as hepatitis. Fatty liver is one of the common problems of the liver and, in many cases, causes no noticeable symptoms. How Much Do You Love Your Liver? contains remedies for fatty liver disease, both dietary and non-dietary. It also talks about the best and worst foods for the liver. As with all the other books in this series, a few recipes, specific to the subject, are included.

Testimonials from some clients

Life would be impossible without ‘Dimpi ’in our lives. She has the answers to all our ailments and you know what, her suggestions work! From something as simple as a hangover to something as complicated as psoriasis. Every blood test every medical report every little health related problem is discussed with her ; be it my ninety -one year old father ,husband, daughters ,me or my two year old grand daughter ! Thanks to her, lemon shots are an integral part of our diet and besides other things none of us ever have acidity! I recently bought a book called ‘The Inside Story of Our Body’s Most Under-Rated Organ GUT’, the first thought that came to me was, and this is what Dimpi has been saying to us for so many years. Her mantra to us has been, be mindful of what you eat, food is medicine and keeping the gut alkaline of utmost importance.

Testimonials from some clients

Dimpi, About 10 years ago, this shy young couple came to your house. The wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer, 2 days back. You counselled, you spoke, and they both were moved by what you shared. Their perspective of looking at life , transformed. Of course , their perspective of looking at food transformed. They both follow your diet, the husband indulges in his sweet tooth occasionally…aah..ok, a lot. Your book recommendation, You Can Heal Your Life: Louise Hay, has been read by both of them and gifted to more than 50 people. This is an expression of gratitude from a husband who was too choked to articulate his gratitude, and had put up a facade of Mard ko Dard nahi hota, being the strong one for his wife. This is just to let the whole world know, what an amazing human being you are. We love you.

Testimonials from some clients

We have been consulting Dimpi for the last 15 years and my younger son is Asthalin free courtesy her advice. She has not only helped him but also my husband, my older son and me with her practical and simple solutions to daily health issues. Dimpi is always empathetic and patient. It is amazing how children react so positively to her and are ready to follow her prescriptions. My sons were 3 and 6 when we first starting consulting her and now they are healthy 16 and 19 years old. Even today if they get an upset stomach or a cold or anything else, the first thing they say is ‘let’s ask Dimpi aunty what to do’. It is the same for my father and my father in law who independently consult her and are better for it. I guess, the whole family is healthy and happy because of Dimpi!

Urvashi Sethi Sodhi

Testimonials from some clients

Dimpi saved my life and without medication. Just by ensuring that I ate right. I was wrongly diagnosed with TB which eventually turned out to be cancer. The medications made me so sick that I could barely get out of bed. Within a month, just through her carefully tailored diet, I was able to travel and go out and do activities I enjoy. I would any day recommend that those who are sick please talk to Dimpi first before going to a doctor. My family and I will always be grateful for her concern, kindness and knowledge of how food is the best medicine. Thank you Dimpi.
