Curry leaves are native to India, Sri Lanka and some South East Asian countries.

They are used for tempering, garnishing and seasoning and also have medicinal benefits.

Nutritional content: Curry leaves contain a negligible amount of calories. They are rich in copper, zinc, chromium, carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, calcium, phosphorus, fiber, iron, potassium, vitamins B ( B6 and B 2), A and C.

Liver: Curry leaves protect the liver from infection and are beneficial for cirrhosis

Anemia: Due to the folic acid content of curry leaves, they aid in absorbing iron. Without adequate folic acid in the body, iron is excreted without proper absorption.

Powerful antioxidant: Curry leaves are high in antioxidants. They keep us healthy by flushing out the harmful toxins from our bodies.

Cholesterol:  Increased cholesterol levels raise the risk of heart diseases. Curry leaves are beneficial in reducing LDL
( bad ) cholesterol and hence, good for the heart.

Anti Diabetic: Due to the high content of copper, iron and zinc, curry leaves help keeping glucose levels in check.

Stress reducer: Curry leaves contain essential oils and help calm and soothe tired nerves, thereby reducing overall stress.

Anti- Cancer: Test tube studies indicate that an alkaloid compound in curry leaves called girinimbine induces colon cancer cell and death. In addition to girinimbine,  powerful  anti- cancer effects in curry leaves are due to the powerful antioxidants they contain such as quercetin, catechin, rutin and Gallic acid.

Digestive Issues: Grind some dried curry leaves and add to buttermilk. Drink on an empty stomach for dealing with diarrhoea, constipation and dysentery. Curry leaves are said to support bowel movement and stimulate digestive enzyme.
