In the Summer, there is Heat, Sweat, Irritation and we use Unhealthy methods to keep cool. We blast our air-conditioners, guzzle on ice- creams, drink lots of iced tea, cold coffee, sodas and the likes which further depletes the energy. We need more energy to digest these acidic drinks which pumps more heat within our body, rather than having a calming effect .
The Body can cool down only when it is given the Time and Energy to do so!!!
What should we do to achieve it?
- Bathe and Swim : Water is the most relaxing and is the air-conditioner in our body, the skin. We should have showers, swim if we can and bathe frequently. Also use a Cold, Wet towel on your neck, abdomen, feet to quickly drop internal temperatures (Add a few drops of lemongrass, sandalwood, lavender or your favorite oils to the water you soak your towel in).
- Deactivate : Deactivating to cool and calm your body is very important – Take some good quality chilled Rose Water and soak some eye pads in it to make a compress. Close your eyes and apply the compress for 5 minutes & do deep breathing.
- Fruit : The quickest way to make energy without heating up your body is through Fruits (Cantaloupe, Mango smoothies, Watermelon and Mango salads, Peaches, Apricots and Plums). Fruits are pre digested, they do not trigger the secretion of acid in the Gut.
- Vegetables : The body loses many minerals in the process of sweating. This loss is quickly and efficiently made up by the Watery Vegetables (Tori, Tinda, Lauki). Juiced, they can be a great thirst quencher and nourisher. Add lemon to it and you are truly set for great health.
- Tulsi seeds or Sabza : Great source for cooling down the body. Add 1 tablespoon of soaked Sabza seeds to your nimbu pani or your lemon shots and you will reap the rewards.
- Hydrate : Hydration is most important for our bodies. Drink 35 ml of Water/kilo of Body weight & more if you are out in the sun. You can add Lemon, Cucumber, Mint, Citrus fruits to your water and have infused water. If you feel like ice-cream then blend your Melons, Watermelons, and Mango and freeze it in your ice trays and suck on these ice cubes.
- Digestion: Eat foods that are easy to digest in the Summer. Have lots of Fruits, Salads, lightly cooked Vegetables and Legumes. Eat as Alkaline as possible and more of Raw foods. Include good Probiotics (Dahi, Lassi, Buttermilk/Chhanch) and Summer coolers (Mango Panna, Bel Sherbet, Sattu) in your Diet. Avoid heavy Sauces, rich Curries, Processed foods and heavy Meats.
- Sleep : During sleep our bodies Repair and Rejuvenate. So sleep well and get back to balance.
