Monsoon Wellness.


The Monsoons will be with us in Delhi very soon and the deluge is already causing problems in mumbai. Monsoons are a Pleasant change, but one cannot overlook the host of Seasonal diseases that they bring with them. Every year, ome witnesses a spurt of water borne diseases due to stagnant rain water.

Diseases due to water contaminants such as Typhoid, Gastroenteritis, Food Poisoning, Diarrhoea, hepatitis, Malaria and Dengue are all on the rise during this Season.

It is said that every year more than 3.4 Million people die as a result of water related diseases- a WHO Study.

This Happens due to Many factors beyond Our contrl such as:-

1- Leptospirosis, Skin exposed to flood water carrying the urine of animals
2- Flies that fly around and breed actively during monsoon and spread diseases after deedng on fecal matter.
3- Accumulated dirt that is sucked into water pipes and contaminate our drinking water.
4- Changes in temperature that compromise our Immune system.

How do we Prevent this from happening:-

1- Do not go out in a heavy downpour if you can avoid it. If you do go out and have to wade in rainwater come back and shower or bathe immediately.
2- Use mosquito repellents, preferably natural ones, like citronella and Tea tree oil. Applu lemongrass or tea tree oil if you get bitten by mosquitoes, on the bite.
3- Beware of stagnat water in your homes. Clean out your drains and your flower pots and vases.
4- Keep food covered and away frim flies.
5- Purify your water effictively. Make sure your aquaguard or water purifier has been services & cleaned before the monsoon.

Food Safety tips during the Monsoon & how to build your immunity:

1- Avoid street food which is uncooked or exposed.
2- Do not have any water or ice from unknown sources.
3- Our digestive system becomes very weak during this season, so avoid eating fried & junk food as it takes longer to digest, which saps our energy & makes us lethargic & sluggish.
4- Have lots of properly washed fresh fruits & vegetables. Preferably go organic-have regional, seasonal & local Produce. Cook your vegetables well. Clean your raw salads & vegetables thoroughly (Soak them in water with apple cider vinegar & rinse extremely well in clean, Pure water).
5- Stay away from refined, processed foods at all costs. it is very tempting to have chai & pakoras during the monsoon but do not make a habit of it. it will weaken your immune system. Instead if you want fried & fatty food, the best substitute is nuts. Roast some peanuts, steam some sprouts-add onions, tomatoes, & lemon Juice with a dash of sendha namak & some chaat masala & Satisfy your fatty food cravings.
6- Have hot drinks like soups, warm water with ginger Juice, lemon, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon & nutmeg. Add all our wonderful spices to help our immune system.

Last but not least, hydrate well with purified water, keep your exercise routing going & Sleep well.
