Health benefits of Giloy

Giloy an Immunity Booster: Giloy, guduchi or tinospora cordifolia, also known as heart- leaved moonseed, is an ayurvedic medicine that has been used and advocated in Indian medicine for hundreds of years. Giloy is known as ‘Amrita’ in Sanskrit because of its abundant medicinal properties .

1) Immunity Booster: Strong immunity is the body’s first line of defense which protects it from disease causing bacteria, virus and germs. One glass of giloy juice daily is a must in your diet.

Recipe as follows:

6-7 Tulsi leaves, 5 cloves, half inch grated ginger, 3 giloy leaves, lemon juice to taste. Boil the ingredients except for the lemon juice for 7 minutes with 150 grams of water. Cool, strain, and add lemon juice before drinking.

2) Antioxidants: Giloy is loaded with antioxidants, which fight free radicals, keep your cells healthy and gets rid of diseases. It purifies blood and combats liver diseases and urinary tract infections.

3) Fever: Giloy is anti-pyretic in nature. It reduces fever and is useful in dengi, swine flu, malaria, and chikungunia.

4) Anxiety and stress: Giloy helps reduce stress and anxiety by getting rid of toxins, boosting memory and as a calming tonic ( see recipe above).

5)Boosts Digestion: Indigestion is an irritating condition. Have Billy powder ( half a gram) and mix in juice of one Amla ( indian gooseberry). If you find that too sour then mix with one teaspoon of jaggery syrup. You will improve digestion and treat bowel related issues.

6)Type 2 Diabetis: Giloy acts as a hypoglycemic agent and helps treat Type 2 diabetes. It helps in the production of insulin and burns glucose.

7)Asthma and respiratory issues: Drinking a glass of giloy juice helps asthmatic patients release their symptoms. Also being an anti inflammatory, giloy helps in respiratory issues like coughs colds and tonsils.

8)Arthritis: Giloy juice is very useful for rheumatoid arthritis. The ginger combined with giloy is also very effective. Due to Giloy being an anti inflammatory, it has anti arthritic properties that help treat arthritis and its symptoms.

Caution.

Avoid Giloy is you are pregnant and breast feeding.
Over use of Giloy maybe stimulate the immune system so consume in moderation.
Avoid Giloy for a few weeks before or after surgery as it can drastically lower blood sugar levels.
